This African Bateleur Eagle Sculpture is expertly hand-carved from natural serpentine stone by skilled Shona artisans in Zimbabwe, Southern Africa. The Bateleur Eagle is a powerful symbol of agility, vision, and freedom, revered across the African continent.

The Bateleur Eagle (Terathopius ecaudatus) is a medium-sized eagle in the family Accipitridae and the sole member of its genus. Closely related to snake eagles, it is believed to be the inspiration behind the iconic Zimbabwe Bird, the national emblem of Zimbabwe. Endemic to Africa and small regions of Arabia, the name “Bateleur” comes from the French word meaning “street performer,” referencing the bird’s acrobatic flight.

Shona stone sculpture is an ancient African art form practiced for nearly a thousand years. Each piece is individually carved, making every sculpture one of a kind with natural variations in color, pattern, and texture—hallmarks of authentic handmade African art.

Ethically and sustainably handcrafted, this sculpture makes a meaningful addition to any collection of African art, wildlife décor, or cultural home accents.
